My daughters citreon picasso 1.8 petrol won't start, it turns over but backfires up the inlet manifold which stops the engine turning on the starter motor then turns again until next backfire

Have a compression test done, as this issue is a open intake valve .

This could be due to the timing belt jumping a tooth or so .

Timing belt should be checked for correct alignment .

Check for malfunction codes this will help diagnose the issue if the timing is correct .

Check your spark plugs if timing is good and no malfunction codes .
