We have a Renault laguna just had its first MOT, we now have a problem that when we get in the car every now and then (it's getting more often) before you've even done anything the car goes completely dead? After some slamming of doors the electrics come back on and your able to start your journey, this also has happened sometimes when the car has stalled everything goes dead, no lights, no display, nothing.

Sounds like you may have have a loose main connector/earth point somewhere..ideally the checks id say from here would be to ensure the main battery terminals are secure..obviously being the source of power you need to start there..the next checks are the earth points especially so from the battery to the body of the car and straps from the engine/tranmission to body..also a carefull check of the main fuse panel/interior fuse panel and ensure the plugs on the back side of these are secure aswell as the small earth points within the car too...normally these would be the first checks to peform in such cases as you describe..I do hope this helps
