I have a Ford Focus 2009 1.6 tdci. When the air con is on

This answer was rated:

I have a Ford Focus 2009 1.6 tdci. When the air con is on all is well until I drive the car, the power loss is so great it feels like I am towing a 40 ton lorry. When the air con is switched of all is fine again. I do not detect any strange noises & the air con is cold.
Hope you can help.

I'd suggest to disconnect the AC pump belt and turn the pump over by hand it should turn relatively easily with no tight spots

if you can't turn it by hand then I'd say the pump will need replacing

you can confirm if the puimp is faulty by having an ac specialist measure the system pressures with a running engine

Hi Matt
I have the car booked in at my local garage on Friday 29 th July, so I will ask him to check out what you have said.
I will let you know the result of what the garage finds next week,
