I have paid a deposit on a used car. i had a rac inspector

Customer Question

i have paid a deposit on a used car. i had a rac inspector to check the car and the dealer said he would rectify any necessary work found. the rac guy pinpointed 'slight play' on the front wheel hub bearings and said this was essential work to do before purchase. the dealer said he would only do this if it failed the mot but of course it didn't! should i insist that the bearings are renewed?

If there is slight play in the bearings then it will be an issue of fail next time around or problem prior to next MOT,depending how long these bearing have in them...You also have to remember that its the MOT tester's opinion whether it fails or not and all MOT testers it may not have failed with this mot tester who did it this time but might have elsewhere..This time in which case the minimul play wasnt deemed excessive or unsafe therefore passed as an advisory be replaced before the next MOT...all dealers must include a 30day warranty by law..But the dealer doesnt have to replace them unless it has failed and deemed the car unsafe..the car is fully legal, passed safety inspection and safe to use on the road as it stands now..
