My 2005 TD4 freelander1 160,000 mls. just stopped the other

This answer was rated:

Hi, my 2005 TD4 freelander1 160,000 mls. just stopped the other day, checked oil and there seems to be diesel in the dipstick tube cos the reading was very high, also noticed a oil leak under car, turns over real easy, won't start but seems like no compression at all.car serviced by specialist 6 months ago, they said car has suffered terminal engine failure! but no idea what caused it and it will cost £350 to £500 to find out what happened!!! no warning lights at all, but car had loss of power 5 mins.before it stopped, by the way when it cut out it rolled fifty yards while still in drive gear, any thoughts cos I want to keep it but what needs replacing, or can you suggest where I get a replacement engine? any thoughts
JA: Have you ever replaced the gaskets? Maybe the hoses?
Customer: no, never had any leaks from either
JA: What is the make/model of your car?
Customer: land rover freelander 1
JA: Are you fixing your Freelander yourself? What have you tried so far?
Customer: no but thinking of asking local garage to change engine, just like to know what was the possible cause
JA: Anything else you want the mechanic to know before I connect you?
Customer: no thats it

hello Gavin

No I have fully read you are getting diesel in the oil ect

Customer: replied 10 days ago.
what do you think may have caused the problem

The injectors have been leaking don't spend any money on that engine.

Customer: replied 10 days ago.
will a new set of injectors solve issue or has ther been too much damage

There will be to much damage to the engine and the engine is very common and that will come with injectors would that be something you would consider ?

Customer: replied 10 days ago.
but what do I buy? used, recon, or new ?

Used try the likes of hills salvage ect, also when you call them they will want your reg number ect ask them for the engine code as that will help you a lot
