would you expect a clutch replacement on a 3year old polo with only
JA: How many miles are on the clutch? Has it been slipping or sticking?
Customer: 20000 no the only problem was a slight burning smell the evening
JA: What year is your Polo?
Customer: 1917
JA: Are you fixing your Polo yourself? What have you tried so far?
Customer: no I have had it fixed by VW and they charged me over £ 1300 which is over the top for a 3 year old car with only 20000 miles
JA: Anything else you want the Mechanic to know before I connect you?

What was their intial diagnoses regarding the clutch issue? that leaded to replacement..

 

Is this the DSG gearbox or fully manual box

I mean was it seen to be mechanical failure or wear and tear,two entirely differant things to warrant it to be replaced..if it was therefore deemed wear and tear then that isnt classed as warrantable on any clutch premature wear if be it by driver error or driving style and sadly that cost for repair would be on the owner sadly...if it was a mechanical failure or a failure that caused issue with the clutch itself to burn out..which would of been assessed at the time of the gearbox being taken out then you may of had some kind of leverage for if the car was still under warranty at the same dealer and serviced.bearing in mind you are the first owner..
