Doctor, I am a 23 year old male athlete who works out alot

Customer Question

Hi Doctor, I am a 23 year old male athlete who works out alot and had two ekgs 2.5 years ago that showed my heart was fine and no heart disease. I experienced palipitations or skipped beats then to go get checked out which were attributed to stress and anxiety. 2.5 years later I still have the palipitations although not very often and my resting heart rate can get down to 44 bpm. I have always been told I have an athletes heart though. My concern is I used a home blood pressure monitor to check my bp the other night which is always low and healthy but it showed i had an irregular heart beat. In the last 2 days I have tried the machine about 300 times and about 3 times it has shown an irregular heartbeat. The last 100 times when I was completely still it showed it was normal. What are your thoughts on if I should be worried and could I really have developed heart disease as a 23 year old within 3 years?

I doubt it is anything Have you had a holter monitor?

You need a holter monitor John to prove this is nothing
This could be a heart arrhythmia of some type
Unlikely but the holter will rule it out completely
