I have a big fluffy male cat and took him to the vet last year

Customer Question

I have a big fluffy male cat and took him to the vet last year with vomiting after his meal and she gave him an injection to unblock his tummy as she thought it was a furball block and it did the trick but can I put oil on his food to do this as the vet is so expensive?

I am sorry to hear Rula is having problems. My name is Rebecca. I am a veterinarian, and will do my best to help.

If you think he may have a hair ball, I would recommend adding fiber to his diet, or trying one of the commercial over the counter hair ball remedies.

You can try oil, but it could contribute to weight gain, or cause diarrhea.

Adding some canned unsweetened pumpkin or some cooked sweet potato to his food is a way to get him to take more fiber.

If he is vomiting, you can give him an over the counter medication called famotidine. A cat can take 1/4 of a 10 mg tablet, twice daily.

Please let me know if I can answer or help with anything else.
