Denise, you've described "abdominal breathing" which indicates significant respiratory compromise necessitating the abdominal musculature as well as Honey's diaphragm in order to expand her lungs when inhaling. These cats often suffer from a thoracic effusion - a collection of fluid in the chest cavity which isn't allowing the lungs to expand properly. This can be life-threatening and so Honey should be attended to by an on-call vet at your earliest convenience. She's not a patient you would be able to manage at home at this time. Please respond with further questions or concerns if you wish.
