hello again, yes I am here.

Let's deal with QNAP first. What model of NAS do you have? Please share.

Customer: replied 10 days ago.
its a 55pro+
Customer: replied 10 days ago.
sorry 556 pro+
Customer: replied 10 days ago.
I have spoken with Qnap and they advised a reset to clear the old network setting to allow it to gather the new DVCP setting etc.
Customer: replied 10 days ago.
I have done that with all servers. (both QNAP's and the Buffalo)
Expert:  TechExpertTZ replied 10 days ago.

And do you get any errors? How are you connecting it? I see that this model has a LAN port, can you connect directly with it using a LAN cable?

Customer: replied 10 days ago.
previsouly i had updated the firmware on the main QNAP server and the Qfinder software. I can see this server via an IP address and mapped drive, but i cannot see it in windows file manager.
Customer: replied 10 days ago.
its all directly cabled
Customer: replied 10 days ago.
via netgear gigabit switches
Customer: replied 10 days ago.
I have a hard wired network and a wifi mesh network. I just cant see the NAS servers properly
Expert:  TechExpertTZ replied 10 days ago.

Sure, for testing purpose I am saying if you can get your laptop to directly connect using a LAN cable and then see if it works, this way we will know if issue is at switches or routers.

Customer: replied 10 days ago.
Ok two mins
Customer: replied 10 days ago.
if i disconnc=ect this machine ill lose this call
Expert:  TechExpertTZ replied 10 days ago.

Your question will remain open but why would you disconnect?

Customer: replied 10 days ago.
hang on - lets be sure we are talking the same thing. the pc i am on right now is connected to the BT home hub via a wired connection. That is then connected to a network switch that allows the 3 servers to connect to the lan
Customer: replied 10 days ago.
i dont wnat to unplug the network cable from the PC im am on or i will lose you
Customer: replied 10 days ago.
otherwise evertyning should be connected correctly.
Expert:  TechExpertTZ replied 10 days ago.

OK, I thought you are on a laptop and using WIFi so you can also use the LAN Cable.

Customer: replied 10 days ago.

Customer: replied 10 days ago.

Expert:  TechExpertTZ replied 10 days ago.

Can you confirm the model? it is 556?

Customer: replied 10 days ago.
556 Pro+
Expert:  TechExpertTZ replied 10 days ago.

This model is not listed on QNAP - there is TS-559 Pro+

Customer: replied 10 days ago.
sorry...I'm a bit stressed with it. Yes, of course it is my mistake
Customer: replied 10 days ago.
Appologies
Customer: replied 10 days ago.
i also have malwarebytes installed, but that has never been a blocker (o far)
Expert:  TechExpertTZ replied 10 days ago.

No problem, I will now work on this.

Customer: replied 10 days ago.
Its a TS 559 Pro+ - just checked
Expert:  TechExpertTZ replied 10 days ago.

Please follow the steps on page 12 in the attached file and report back the result.

Customer: replied 10 days ago.
Hi - yes thanks. I spoke with QNAP Technical support this morning. There is no hardware fault and its a LAN communication issue somewhere in the settings. I previously had fixed IP addresses. I then reverted them back to automatically obtaining a DNS Server address and allocating an IP address bhich it seems to have done
Customer: replied 10 days ago.
I can use the QNAP "Qfinder" software to explore the server and I can map a network drive, but I CANNOT see the server in Windows File explorer
Customer: replied 10 days ago.
that means i cannot see the required folder in applications like Adobe Lightroom
Customer: replied 10 days ago.
I also cannot see the other QNAP NAS server or the Buffalo NAS server.
Expert:  TechExpertTZ replied 10 days ago.

You would need to map the drive again as the IP address has changed, also if you were using static before then you need to turn on DHCP and make sure dynamic IP is allocated or assign the static IP again.

Customer: replied 10 days ago.
is that helping expalin the problem?
Expert:  TechExpertTZ replied 10 days ago.

Did you follow all the steps on the page - I am sharing the photo here again -

Customer: replied 10 days ago.
thanks - we went throuugh this with QNAP. Still no joy unfortunately. It appears the autosetting gets the DHCP address automatically I have just looked through every tab on the QNAp again and can't find the one they listed in the image you sent. However, it has had a full reset
Customer: replied 10 days ago.
hey, im a bit lost now. is this something you can fix? cheers :)
Expert:  TechExpertTZ replied 10 days ago.

Can you give me some time to get back to you, I will investigate this further. Can you give me until your morning?

Customer: replied 10 days ago.
hey, don't worry. its not a major issue. You've been helpful. I'll do some further digging. kind regards, S
Expert:  TechExpertTZ replied 10 days ago.

You are welcome. I hope this works out for you. I will do some more investigation on my end too. Thank you.
