Which Kindle model do you have?

Thanks Eileen.

There are two ways that resolve this issue. If the first one fails, please go to the next one.

1 - Unplug the router and wait 1 minute. Plug back in the router and wait 1 minute. Press and hold down the power button on the Kindle until it restarts and try to connect again.

2 -
  1. Swipe down from the top of the screen.
  2. Tap More, and then tap Device.
  3. Tap Reset to Factory Defaults.

After the factory restore, connect again.

i did this with AMAZON EARLIER and it still didn't work

You did both of those steps earlier with Amazon?
Customer: replied 4 years ago.

yes and have also been in contact with BT

I am shocked that Amazon let you get off the phone after performing those steps and it didn't work. The issue does not have to do with BT(even if Amazon tries to say so) but with the Kindle itself. Amazon should have issued you a replacement on the spot to resolve this issue.
