If the Garmin icon on your XP computer disappeared, then try looking under Start - All Programs and check if the Garmin program is still listed there. If it is not then it will need to be reinstalled again.

I am now trying to reinstall, not easy.

I had tried that route and I have tried it again but the Garmin Icon remains stubbornly off my Desk top.

It may have installed itself somewhere in the Programs menu.
Go to Start - All Programs and look for a Garmin program there.
If you wish, I can have a look remotely for you, if you can install on your computer.
