After Ive switched on my Toshiba P200 laptop, the screen comes

This answer was rated:

After I've switched on my Toshiba P200 laptop, the screen comes quite quickly to Windows Error Recovery & it gives me a choice to 1) Launch Startup Repair (recommended ) or 2) Start Windows Normally. Whichever one I choose I can't get in.
Can you help?
My name is James
Welcome to Just Answer
Do you have any data on the Machine you need ?
Customer: replied 3 years ago.

Yes, but if you can fix it, but can't save data, then so be it

If you cant boot in ether of those ways

you next option is a factory Restore to day 1 Condtion

It would remove any data and take your machine back to day 1 condtion

if you wish i can give you the details ?
Customer: replied 3 years ago.

ok,lets go for it

You can try a Factory Restore , You will lose all data its quite tricky on a Toshiba this will set your machine back to Day1 use "out of the box condition"

You will need to do this

1) Power off the machine

2)Press and hold down the 0 (zero) key on the keyboard while powering on the computer. Release it when the recovery warning screen appears.

3) Follow the on screen Recovery Wizard Click yes on the Warning Screen all data will be lost

4)When the Toshiba Recovery Wizard opens select "Recovery of Factory Software"

Then follow the On-screen prompts

Customer: replied 3 years ago.

I think I've tried this yesterday & it did'nt happen. I'm going to try it now.

ok it can be quite hard to do

Make sure hold the 0 zerokey when starting the machine
Customer: replied 3 years ago.

Ok, when I hold the 0 button & the start button nothing happens. When I release the start button, the machine starts & it goes to the In touch with tomorrow TOSHIBA screen & gets stuck there until I release the 0 button, when it goes to windows error recovery screen I described to you in the beginning.

Oh dear

then the recovery partition is not working

your next step is a Windows disk do you have one ?
Customer: replied 3 years ago.

Windows Vista Business

Then you can run the Install from the disk

It will also wipe all data

And do a clean Install

insert the disk and restart the machine it should auto boot from the disk follwo the on Screen propmts to do an install

Customer: replied 3 years ago.

There is no difference with the disk

its not booting from the disk

When you start the laptop

quickly along the bottom

it will say

Press X to enter Set up

Press X for one time boot menu

take a note of this infomation and come back to me
Customer: replied 3 years ago.

it doesn't say that.

It's exactly the same as before.

It dose you need to look as soon as you turn the machien at the writing at the bottom of the machine
Customer: replied 3 years ago.

It doesn't.

I sometimes get a screen with windows vista , if I play with the F buttons.

But I don't get what you're describing

We are not talking about the same screen

You machine has a BIos

This is sometimes called Set up

Without this , you cant change to boot to CD . without that you cant use your machine
Customer: replied 3 years ago.

I have described to you what happens, & there's not much changing even with the disk

your not booting from the disk thats point i am making without changing the boot order you can go no further
Customer: replied 3 years ago.

I never said I'm booting from disk.

All I said was, Originally I described to you what's happening. You then told me to put disk, which I did. still not working . You then tell me press x for set up, which doesn't show on my laptop.

end of day, no difference with disk or without disk, my laptop doesn't work.

Without changing the boot order you can go no futher

to do that you need to enter the bios set up

to do that you need to knwo which key to press

When you start your machien at the bottom it tells you this

Press X to enter set up

X can be Del , F1 F12
Customer: replied 3 years ago.

ok, I'm in Phoenix Trusted Core Setup Utility.

Bios Ver : V1.50

Look for boot order /Priorty
Customer: replied 3 years ago.

In the Main column it says; Quiet boot: Enabled

In the Boot column it says;

Built-in HDD1 TOSHIBA MK2035GSS-(S1)

Otherwise can't find anything on boot order / priority

thats perfect

you need to change the boot order so the CD/DVD drive is first

On the left it should tell you how ussally F5/F6

Once done

Press F10 and Y to save then the machien will restart and boot from the CD
is it booting from Cd?
