I would like to create a Website WordPress template

This answer was rated:

I would like to create a Website WordPress template for my startup. However I don't know what host do I have to choose in order to make sure that my website will be enough fast in the peak hours as well as in regular hours.
Moreover, I am looking for the best compromise between the cheapest and fastest host for my website.
Could you give me an advice concerning the Website host I need for my website?
Then, I also saw the Virtual Private Server (VPS) and Virtual Dedicated Server (VDS) such as Godaddy and BlueHost. Is it a good solution?
Hi, welcome and thank you for your question. My name is ***** ***** I am glad to assist you today.
I have been developing, designing and deploying websites for many years. I do a lot of them using Drupal CSM and then WordPress.
Regarding the best host, I highly recommend HostGator. They have fast servers and quality 24/7 support. I have been using Hostgator and some other hosts for more than 10 years now and their service is awesome.

Now, this is my advise regarding the "fastness" of your Wordpress site. This does not depend on the hosting server alone. In fact, almost all hosting companies are using blazing fast servers today. The factors that hugely affect the speed of your Wordpress site are the following:
1. Wordpress site optimization.
This means that your wordpress website needs to be optimized for speed. This will ensure that no unnecessary scripts are running in the background that is causing the lag. As a quick example, if your wordpress is executing 2000 tasks in a page load, when only 800 are actually needed to run, finding and disabling the unnecessary 1200 tasks will make your wordpress site blazing fast. That is just a sample scenario of optimization.
The good thing is, there are wordpress plugins that you can use to optimize your wordpress website. Please check these links:
2. Site Traffic or Actual Visitors
Yes, you will always want millions of people to view your site but when millions of people are viewing your site at the same time, like in a split-second, this will make your website to throttle as it is serving pages to a lot of people. All of the web hosting servers react the same when it comes to huge traffic, regardless of how fast the server is, even my recommended HostGator.
However, the solution to this is to use a Content Delivery Network (CDN). It is just a click-and-run tool to enable and disable. This is how it works.
When your website is using a CDN, the CDN company has a lot of servers and it will COPY your sites to these servers. So literally, you are like hosting your site to several web hosting companies. The good part to this is, the CDN companies are distributing their servers to almost all countries or major countries in the world where internet usage is high. FOr instance, a certain CDN company has servers in USA, UK, Singapore, and other countries. Then, when a visitor visits your site, the CDN server NEAREST to the visitor kicks in. That is, if the visitor is from Singapore, he will be seeing a copy of your site hosted in Singapore so it will be very fast as compared to downloading your website page from the USA host. That is how Facebook is keeping its fast speed regardless of the millions of users across the globe since it has its own CDN infrastructure.
A sample CDN company is MaxCDN. Here is the link:
Now, if you want to check out or try HostGator, or review the fetures they offer, please check this link:
Lastly, regarding your questions on VPS and VDS, I do not recommend them as you mentioned you are a startup company. These services are just allowing you to rent the whole server for your sole use. It means, it is faster as you are the only user of the server, but you need to have your own Server Administrator to setup the server, setup the web server and then maintain it 24/7. It is a bit expensive as compared to using a shared hosting like hostgator or bluehost.
I hope that helped.
Please remember to rate my service positively (3-5 stars/faces) if this helped. Tips are always highly appreciated!

I am currently working on a Wordpress Template and I would like to be sure that I optimize the speed of the website. Thanks to your information, I know that the webside speed depends of: the right Host, The optimization of the website, the site traffic or Actual visitors.

Then, I think the size of the pictures and videos will impact the website speed too. Doesn't it?

So I wonder if you have some tips concerning the extension of pics and videos, I have to insert into the website?

Hi Noa,
Thank you for writing back. To answer this question, YES, the size of the pictures and videos matters or is a factor in causing your wordpress site to load blazing fast or as slow as snail.
Regarding images, I highly recommend using PNG file extension, or save your pictures as PNG. If you have them in JPG, they can be alright as well. But if you are yet to create them, have them saved as PNG for web optimization.
Also, to boost your optimization results, when it comes images, I highly recommend "optimizing" them first before uploading or using them in your wordpress site. The image optimization simply cleans up the image and reduces its size WITHOUT affecting the quality badly. You need to try it to see it for yourself. For example, if you have a BANNER image, keep the original copy then have one copy that is optimized. Open the 2 images and see if the optimized copy is as good quality as the original but with very smaller size compared to the original.
Here is the free online optimization tool for your images:
Regarding videos, I have no recommendation as to what file format you save your video. But just remember that you need to save the video as a smaller file size since the small the size of the video, the faster it will load.
Also, still regarding videos, I highly recommend that you DO NOT EMBED OR HOST them on your wordpress site. The most practical and the fastest method to show videos on your site is through Youtube or other video hosting services like Vimeo. Here is the sample workflow:
1. Create a youtube or vimeo account, it is free though Vimeo has Pro or paid version.
2. Upload your videos there. Youtube or Vimeo will CONVERT your videos upon uploading for optimization purposes so that they will buffer and play faster than the RAW format.
3. In your website, just embed the youtube or vimeo link to show the videos to your users.
In this approach, all video files are in the video sharing sites and NOT in your hosting account that will leverage your server from the storage aspect.
I hope that helped.

Thank you so much Jess, your advice are clear and valued.

Regarding the pics on the website pages, I wonder how do I have to name the pictures? Do I have to use the keywords as well (ALT: keywords)? Indeed, I need to use the keywords, on the pages to have a better SEO ranking.

However, now it sounds that Google is limiting the number of keywords used on the pages, is it true?

Yes, you need to use keyboards and a keyword limitation is also in place. This is for better SEO. For naming picture, keep it short, it is a better approach and there is no need to name the pictures the same with your keywords. The best way to name the picture is a descriptive way so that they appear "well" in image searches. That is, name the picture as to what the picture is all about.
The ALT properties must contain a keyword or two as well. Just remember that this ALT text will show up WHEN or BEFORE the image loads so you need to keep the ALT text descriptive as well.
Thank you.
