I need to know in detail to help you please.
I can see you are a first time user to the site. What we do here is either a question and answer type of conversation or remote support where I would actually connect to the computer and have a look and fix the issue if possible.
Remote support can save a lot of time if you are not comfortable performing repairs yourself.

This takes me to another page where I have to re-enter user name and a security check, then on to a further page which states that a reset message will be sent to my gmail account. I have been through this many times and reset password. However when I try to enter new password ***** aol this returns to the "error" page.

So it does say it succesfully resetted the password?
What is the part before and after the @ symbol?
Dont tell me the @ just the part before and after so it is not blocked

It is a free account. I had a paid AOL service for many years (different address) but cancelled as I was paying for a UK server and I am in Italy.

Main problem is if account has been suspended how do I get it back? My business is run thru this address.

AOL give a free UK helpline but no number that can be dialled from abroad - useless!

The phone number wont work as its for paid members.
Your not going to be able to do anything Peter but create a new account. This is the problem with using a free email service, and especially AOL, as there is no support for this when you do not pay for it.
They may re-open the account in 48 hours, but if you have not been able to reset the password, then your looking at the need to create a new email address and I would strongly advise you get a professional service, one with your own domain name such as Go Daddy
then its not possible to get into this situation
