Model Satellite Pro C850-1FR Serial no. ZC07600R
How do I output audio via the usb socket. Is a digital to analogue converter required ?
Analogue output from the 3.5 mm headphone socket is of poor quality. The sound from the latter is degraded by very short duration drop-outs.

I am sorry to hear that you are having this issue.
Are you using this with your tv or a stereo and amplifier?
Customer: replied 2 years ago.

I'm using stereo and amplifier

okay, that should work for you. Try to configure the audio output to match your speaker setup:
Click Start > Control Panel.
In the Control Panel, click Hardware and Sound.. In the Playback tab of the Sound screen, click on the USB
device you want to use. It should have a tick beside it. If it
doesn't, set it as your default by clicking Set Default. Then Click Properties.
In the Properties screen, ensure “Use this device (enable)” is
selected in the Device usage drop-down list.Select the Levels tab.
Ensure that the Speakers volume is high enough and is not
Mute the Microphone (do not skip this step) and click OK
Click Finish
Let me know if it doesn't work and I will get you a link for a better usb to audio converter.

Thank you. Your suggested configuration was successful. The sound from a laptop CD or internet radio; via USB port and D/A converter on through stereo amp or head phones is clean. It is free from the 'click' sized drop-outs that degrade the audio delivered through the 3.5mm output socket
