I have a new fibre broadband connection, and need to check

This answer was rated:

I have a new fibre broadband connection, and need to check it's download/upload speed. I need to connect to the router directly with a Win7 Pro laptop. The laptop currently accesses via WiFi to the router.
Having made the physical connection to the router, how do I configure the connection to exclude WiFi and only access the router/broadband directly?
Thank you.
