Hi, it's Sierra

Click on the Finder then select Preferences and Sidebar Re-check mark the Documents item.

download Anydesk remote tool i can then remote connect and fix it for you

let me know the email address shown under "THIS DESK"

Customer: replied 7 months ago.
It's not there in Preferences/Sidebar. Just awaiting the download

This is part of the problem - now taking ages to save anything...

did you shut down the computer when you are not using it or its powered on all time

Customer: replied 7 months ago.
It's powered on most of the time. I used First Aid via Disk Utility this morning and then re-started it.

did you manage to run Anydesk?

Customer: replied 7 months ago.
It's still trying to save
Customer: replied 7 months ago.

i am connected now

On the top, hover over "Finder" and click "Preferences", or press "cmd+,".

Press "sidebar" on the tabs.

Check the documents.

Have done this - will do again, the folder goes to a tick, then reverts to a -

You can click on Finder, click "Search" and type out "Documents" (and click search for "This Mac"). Then you'll need to scroll through everything until you find your document folder (if there are many folders called "Document" make sure to find the one with a page drawn on it). Then you simply drag that folder to the sidebar!

Can I create a new one? I think that's deleted.

yes you can create a new one if the folder is un recoverable

Customer: replied 7 months ago.
Where should I save the document folder for the best?

open Finder.

click Finder in the menu bar and select Preferences.

Under the General tab, find the New Finder windows show heading, and use the drop down box to select a preferred default Finder window location.

Default folder can be saved on any location as per your preferences.

Thanks, ***** ***** think it's a specific issue. Whilst doing several things at once, I deleted All My Files. I tried to reload from a Time Machine backup, which proved to be faulty, deleting my old Documents file. It's as if there's a problem now with the hard disk in finding files, or saving them
Customer: replied 7 months ago.
Sorry, but my problem isn't solved.

you mean your data files are lost or deleted?

Customer: replied 7 months ago.
Can you see my desk top? I seem to have loads of documents folders and iCloud connections going on

yes i do see but there is nothing on it, it just says documents when you try opening does that open?

data files must be saved on icloud or an external drive.

unplug and replug the drive and then check

Customer: replied 7 months ago.
The drive is defective and has been sent to be fixed. iCloud shows folders only, no documents within

I am sorry to say this but if there is nothing in the i-cloud that means the data saved on it was deleted or removed accidentally by you and if you have sent the drive for replacement the data can be recovery using 3rd party data recovery service.

To recover deteled files, perform these steps inside of the interface:

  1. Select Settings.
  2. Scroll down to the bottom of the Settings page and click Restore Files.
  3. Locate the file you wish to restore, and place a checkmark beside of the file (repeat for as many files as you wish to recover)
  4. Click Restore File(s)
