This can happen when the hard drive becomes corrupted inside the machine.

First, try a factory reset which will reformat the hard drive.

If a factory reset doesn't work then the hard drive will need to be replaced.

How do I go about this. Also the recording list was still intact when the hard drive wasn't working and I could watch recorded shows but now it is saying not available.

Yes, that is further indication that the software is working ok but the hard drive is not.

To reset the box, press the Menu button and select RECEIVER SETTINGS.

I have tried default settings and the message says all channels and settings will be lost. Does this mean it will wipe all channels and recordings.

Yes all channels and recordings will be erased.

I don't want to erase all recorded programmes. Is there another way round this.

As the hard drive is corrupted the recordings have already been lost and are not recoverable.
