JA: What have you tried so far with your laptop? Have you installed any updates recently?
Customer: I have tried recovery and backed all data. The other a recent addition to hard disk but it didn't affect the startup pasword

First step is to follow the above and try and rest the password, also make sure NUM Lock - CAPS lock are not on

If that fails we can look at recovery that may including losing data
