I have a skin lesion on my scalp. It’s been there around 3 years but I came across it again in the shower. and wanted to get a Dermatologist view? My GP said it is nothing serious. I think it may have got slightly inflamed with a recent hair cut. Do you know what it is? I am very worried as I suffer with health anxiety.

Hello. I'm Dr Chip
Thanks for your picture

That looks like a totally benign pilar cyst and these are very common

But since I can only go by the picture I can't completely rule out a basal cell carcinoma skin cancer

So I'm obligated to advise you to have a dermatologist actually look at it

Please let me know if you need any more information

This has made me more anxious. Can you please have a closer look?

maybe compare with other benign cysts. Does it look like skin cancer?

Sure--let me have another picture

It seems to have settled down slightly since yesterday? It could be a block hair follicle? It’s sensitive to touch.

By the way, the redness is where my partner has squeezed it to try and pop it!

It definitely looks like a pilar cyst--a blocked hair follicle

And squeezing it won't help

I'm sorry my answer made you anxious but I had to give you my full accurate opinion

Thanks. You don’t think it looks like a skin cancer then?

Are skin cancers sore/ sensitive to touch? This feels sensitive when you touch it? What do you think Dr Chip? Shall I stop worrying? Appreciate your expert help.

No--cancers aren't sore

No need to worry
