Customer Question

I have an itchy scalp for a while and I believe it’s causing me hair loss in patches. My hair is getting thinner where the itching is mainly.

Thank you for contacting Just Answer

I am sorry to hear this, do you have any photos demonstrating this? How long has this been happening?

Customer: replied 16 days ago.
Here is one
Customer: replied 16 days ago.
It’s been on going I believe but I hadn’t noticed that it’s been an issue
Customer: replied 16 days ago.
My hair tends to build up with scabs or crust sometimes
Customer: replied 16 days ago.
Hairs another picture
Expert:  Dr Baker replied 16 days ago.

Thanks. This could be a dermatitis or a form of psoriasis.

what have you tried to treat it?

Customer: replied 16 days ago.
I’ve used only nizarol shampoo to try rid the dandruff and the flakes that build on my scalp
Customer: replied 16 days ago.
I’ve been on anti biotics for folliculitis which was for a skin disorder that I had beforehand
Customer: replied 16 days ago.
Will my hair grow back with the right treatment. Or is this permanently thin now
Expert:  Dr Baker replied 16 days ago.

I would speak with your doctor about a topical scalp steroid and treat it as per scalp psoriasis. You can use this with Nizarol as that can loosen the dry skin.

if that works then the hair could come back

Customer: replied 16 days ago.
How likely is it that my hair will become same thickness with the rest of my hair
Customer: replied 16 days ago.
Also my hair is very oily when I don’t wash it. I used to wash my hair everyday and I have recently cut it down to 2/3 times a week
Expert:  Dr Baker replied 16 days ago.

Most likely. Contact your doctor and see about trying something

Expert:  Dr Baker replied 16 days ago.

I would avoid cutting your hair so frequently as well to avoid over irritation

Customer: replied 16 days ago.
What about washing my hair. How often should I be washing it ?
Customer: replied 16 days ago.
The itchiness has reduced recently but still signs of tingling or itchiness still there
Expert:  Dr Baker replied 16 days ago.

I don’t think washing will impact it, the scalp is the issue. A steroid should help with this

Customer: replied 16 days ago.
Ok and will the steroid help the build up of scab/dandruff too? And the itchiness?
Expert:  Dr Baker replied 15 days ago.

Yes, I suspect it will

Customer: replied 15 days ago.
Ok thanks. Can I ask is it actually okay to wash hair everyday ?
Expert:  Dr Baker replied 15 days ago.

No problem. Some suggest everyday is not ideal, but I cannot see a reason why you cannot. Especially if you find your hair is greasy

Customer: replied 15 days ago.
Thank you
