Hi. I am very worried about my puppy. I have had him 3 nights

Customer Question

Hi. I am very worried about my puppy. I have had him 3 nights and he is 12 weeks old. He seems very lethargic today, almost drowsy. And has also been sick on a couple of occasions. He ate his own faeces this morning so I wondered if it could be that but also I have given him 2 of three doses of the worming solution. He is due the third dose this evening and I am unsure if I should be treating him with this or not? Please could you advise. Thanks

I am sorry to hear you are worried about Schwarzenegger. My name is Rebecca. I am a veterinarian, and will do my best to help.

Has he had his puppy vaccinations? I would be worried about things like parvovirus, but if he has had his vaccinations that is less likely.

If you look at his gums, are they a nice pink color, or do they look pale?

Puppies often eat feces, both their own and other dogs, and it usually does not make them sick.

I would try to get him to take liquids like broth and water to stay hydrated, until he does not vomit for awhile.

There are many things that can make a puppy be lethargic, not eat, and to vomit. Some are serious and some are not. If he is not vaccinated, I would be worried about parvo, which can be serious.

I would not give the worm medication until he is not vomiting.

Let me know what else I can answer or help with.
