My dog has a large swollen patch just to the side of his neck

My dog has a large swollen patch just to the side of his neck roughly in the place that a human would have a gland. It doesn't seem to bother him and is moveable and fairly spongy.
Good Morning and welcome! I am Dr. Loretta, a licensed veterinarian and I am happy to answer your question.
This mass is probably a swollen gland or lymph node. These drain things in the mouth and will sometimes in your dogs enlarge due to inflammation or infection. It is a good sign that it is not painful....for now, apply hot compresses to this area every 4 hrs. This will help draw out any infection and will help decrease the size of this mass. If it persists, of course have your vet examine your guy but in most cases, this will resolve and your guy will be fine.
Does that make sense to you?
Please let me know if you have ANY other questions. My goal is to give you 100% satisfaction and if you are not yet satisfied, please REPLY so I can clarify for you.
