Have my son's dog . Have noticed since last night

Have my son's dog for weekend. Have noticed since last night he is straining to wee and is squatting rather than lifting his leg. He is a 3 years old Labrador. Not familiar with dogs but feel this is a problem

I am sorry to hear you are worried about Harvey. I am a veterinarian, and will do my best to help.
The most common reason for a dog to strain to urinate is a bladder infection. If that is what is wrong with Harvey, a course of antibiotics should take care of the problem.
I would have a urinalysis done to see if that is what is wrong.
Is he neutered? If not, this could be a prostate problem, but that would not be common in a dog only 3 years old.
