I am looking at a stud dog but he is still carrying

I am looking at a stud dog for my bitch but he is still carrying his winter coat .this is abit off putting as we are now in July . Will this affect any pups we may have ?
I'm sorry that your question wasn't answered in a timely manner. We don't have any studies supporting a genetic basis for abnormal shedding patterns which can arise from environmental factors such as excessive exposure to artificial light, endocrine disorders such as hypothyroidism, and idiopathic (unknown cause) hair cycle arrests. I wouldn't consider his carrying his winter coat a factor when deciding if he is to be the stud dog for your bitch unless he had never demonstrated a normal shedding pattern - a condition more likely to have a genetic basis but difficult to prove one way or the other. If that were the case, hypothyroidism is important to rule out because hypothyroid dogs may also have impaired fertility. Please respond with further questions or concerns if you wish.
