My english bulldog has a nasal polyp but the vet recommends not to remove it due to hes age (10)and history...hes on prednisolene steroids which dont seem to help.any advice would be welcome or other options
I'm sorry that your question wasn't answered in a timely manner, Scott. Unfortunately, inflammatory polyps in the nasal cavity or oropharynx (back of the throat) don't respond to conservative therapy such as the antiinflammatory glucocorticoids such as prednisolone nor the nonsteroidal antiinflammatory drugs (NSAIDS) such as carprofen or meloxicam. Only surgical excision is recommended and then only recommended if the polyp is causing respiratory compromise. I wish I had more to offer Ernie but that's not the case.10 years old shouldn't preclude anesthesia and surgery as long as Ernie's heart is healthy and his pre-operative testing reveals nothing untoward.
