My Labrador has epilepsy and takes gabapentin, libromide & epiphen. She has accidentally taken a 100mg Cartagena tablet, will this do her any harm and should I give her the normal daily tablets as listed above. Thank you

I'm sorry that your question wasn't answered in a timely manner. I can't find 100 mg cartagena in my formulary. Is this 100 mg of carprofen instead? If so, it's the proper dose for a 45 kg dog and safe to give along with his anticonvulsants. Please respond with further questions or concerns if you wish.

The med was carbagen does this make any difference? Thanks

Thank you. Carbamazepine (Carbagen) isn't commonly used but may have some utility in dogs as a psychotherapeutic agent at a dose of 4-8 mg/kg. There is extremely limited information for this drug's adverse effect profile in dogs. It isn't expected to affect any of her regularly admninistered drugs, however. In humans, dizziness, drowsiness, nausea, and vomiting have been noted with carbamazepine. If your Lab has remained unaffected, I would give her her normal medications at her normally scheduled times. Please continue our conversation if you wish.
