Good morning

Dr. Paul Brazzell here

I would be happy to help you by text or by phone

I am one of the veterinarians on this site authorized to speak by phone

It costs more but allows me to quickly and accurately diagnose the problem and answer all of your questions efficiently

Are you able to send me a photo of the eye?

How long has this been going on for?

Paul

Customer: replied 1 month ago.
His eye has been a bit watery for a couple of days. I will attach a picture
Expert:  DocPaul replied 1 month ago.

Got it

Give me a minute :)

Paul

Expert:  DocPaul replied 1 month ago.

Oh boy

That eye looks really inflammed

And is there spot of bright red on the pupil?

Paul

Customer: replied 1 month ago.
No not on his pupil
Expert:  DocPaul replied 1 month ago.

Thanks!

Must have been a reflection- phew!

There is episcleritis and conjunctivitis for sure

There is also blepharitis

This is one instance where I would recommend an examination

I always err on the side of caution

I suspect you will only need some steroid drops BUT they should scrape the eyelids to rule out mites

Can you take him in?

Paul

Customer: replied 1 month ago.
I have just googled walk in vets and they aren't open until 8am tomorrow!
Customer: replied 1 month ago.
He is biting at hos feet etc too?
Expert:  DocPaul replied 1 month ago.

Oh yes

You are in UK

Okay for now lets do this:

Give Aspirin at 10.0 mg/pound twice daily with food

And Benadryl at 2.0 mg/kg three times daily

That will help a lot

Okay?

Paul

Customer: replied 1 month ago.
As in what we would take? Im not comfortable with that! Have just called the vets taking him in in the morning
Expert:  DocPaul replied 1 month ago.

Yes

Both of those are extremely safe for dogs

I have prescribed them thousands of times

Paul

Customer: replied 1 month ago.
I would be scared I was giving him too much or something.
Expert:  DocPaul replied 1 month ago.

Why dont you measure up the amounts and then double check with me :)

It will be fine

And he will be a lot more comfortable till you can get him ine

How much does he weigh-> I will tell you how much to give

Paul

Customer: replied 1 month ago.
He is between 7-8kg
Is it liquid? I will need to go buy some
Expert:  DocPaul replied 1 month ago.

Thanks

Give 2 (two) baby aspirin twice daily with food

And the Benadryl is liquid yes :)

You would give 15.0 mg three times daily of that :)

Okay?

Paul

Customer: replied 1 month ago.
Baby aspirin? What if he has a reaction or something I can't do it
Expert:  DocPaul replied 1 month ago.

He will be fine

I have prescribed this thousands of times without incident

I did not give him anything as I was unsure and advise was conflicting with other advise that I read and looked into. I am taking him to see the vet this morning. You didn't answer about the scratching and biting at himself! Not to worry now though as like I say we are seeing the vet soon.
