How can I stop my Labrador who has just turned one from

Customer Question

How can I stop my Labrador who has just turned one from jumping and chewing at peoples fingers. He also suffers from separation anxiety.
JA: I'll do all I can to help. When did this chewing start? Does the Labrador have any known allergies?
Customer: He chewed when we got him at 6/7months old, he then stopped but since my daughter partner and granddaughter came to stay while work is being done on their home, he has started again. I should have said he backs away when he knows the lead is going on.
JA: Does he also have a rash or other skin-related symptoms?
Customer: No
JA: What's the Labrador's name?
Customer: Dusty
JA: Is there anything else the Vet should know?
Customer: when out with the dog walker he sometimes growls at people when he is on the lead, he doesn’t do it when we have him out. It’s almost like he thinks he is boss, but he it fine with me

Is Dusty neutered?

Has he had any form of training? (like puppy classes?)

Are you still online?

Based on the very limited information you have provided so far, my best recommendation is to book the little one a hands-on evaluation with a dog behaviourist. Firstly, we'd try to neuter him and see if removing the testosterone component makes any difference. If not, he needs proper socialising and training. Some dogs need a bit more exercise than others (like Agility classes or an extra walk/day) but it all starts with adequate training. What is now looks like playing, it can turn later into proper disobedience and aggression. So I'd recommend asking around (your local vet might be able to helo with some close-by recommendations) to see if you can offer Dusty some extra training and exercise (if already castrated).
