Hello, you are through to Dr Linda, a UK base vet.
I'm sorry to hear Puppies has not been well.
When did this start?
Does she have any known medical issues?
Is she still eating and being social?
So she is not keeping even water down?
Any chance she has eaten something she shouldn't have such as a bone, plastic, rich human food or a toxin?
I am happy to continue talking via typing.
So, no chance she has eaten anything she shouldn't have?
And is she able to keep water in?
What breed is she?
Are her gums pink and wet?
Is she lethargic?
Sleepier than usual, not happy to run around, play and go on walks?
Ok, I understand.
And is this very unusual behaviour for her?
Has she been neutered. (spayed)?
Do you know when she was last in season?
Is there any chance she is pregnant?
Has she had any discharge from her vulva (vagina) or is she licking under her tail?
I am just typing my full reply now which will take a few minutes.
Puppies' symptoms are vague and could have several causes including:
Given how unwell she is, I do think a vet visit is best as soon as she can be seen.
The vet will examine her and may run some tests such as a blood test or abdominal scan.
Treatment will depend on what is going on and may include e.g antibiotics and pain relief. She may also require fluids and an anti vomiting injection if she continues to be sick.
At home, try to tempt her with warm chicken and rice in small meals and hopefully she keeps this down. Continue to offer water and allow her to rest.
Shaking can be due to anxiety, pain, a fever etc.
It is also something we can see with systemic infections and certain hormonal disorders such as Addison's disease.
Unfortunately, none of her symptoms are specific so without examining her and running some tests, we can't be sure what is going on.
