Customer Question

Hello, my dog has developed a bruise on his inner thigh today about 1cm. Is this an emergency? Should I ring the vets now even though it’s nearly 2am?
JA: Hi there. The Expert will know how to treat the bruise and can recommend next steps. What's the dog's name?
Customer: He is called monte
JA: Is there anything else the Vet should know about Monte?
Customer: he may also have a small bruise on his gums

Or could it just be a fly bite?

Hello, you are through to Dr Linda, a UK based vet.Bruising is always consenting on a dog and would warrant a prompt vet check. They will examine him and would likely run some tests such as a blood test and coagulation profile. From photos, it is always tricky to assess if something is a bruise. I am not convinced from these photos. The gum change could be normal pigment and the other lesion could be a graze. I would want both lesions assessed in real life.

Thank you very much. Would you say it is an emergency to get assessed or should I wait a few days to see if heals on it’s own? Thank you

As his gums are pink and wet, if he has no other symptoms, you could choose to monitor at home.If he develops more lesions, pale gums, other symptoms (such as panting, a bloated abdomen or lethargy) I would want him seen.Pay close attention to the white if the eyes and gums for any changes (such as redness or red pin pricks).
