Hi there, this is Dr Linda, a UK based vet.
I'm sorry to hear this and understand your concern for Cookie.
Are her gums pink and wet?
Is she tired or off her food?
Thank you.
Has Cookie's diet recently been changed or has she had any new treats?
And this was done right before her signs started?
Not stupid at all, but an abrupt diet change often causes colitis (an inflammation of the gut leading to bloody and mucus filled stool).
I'd offer a probiotic anti diarrhoea paste such as Protexin Prokolin and would also ensure Cookie is up to date with a good quality wormer such as Panacur.
Encourage water drinking. I'd feed bland meals of chicken and rice until the stomach has settled and then gradually reintroduce her regular dog food over a few days.
Not at all and wishing Cookie a speedy recovery.
Take care!
