Hi JaCustomer,

My name is Jane. I have been working professionally with animals especially dogs in both health and behavioral issues for over 18 years. I have over 14,000 satisfied customers. It will be my pleasure to work with you today.

In order to supply you with the best information, I do need to ask for some additional information. Once I receive your answer, it will likely take me about 30-45 minutes to type up your response. I hope you can be patient. I do have an appointment this morning so it may be a little longer.

Is your boy neutered?
Are you the only person he does this to?
Do you have children?
Do you have a crate for him?
What obedience training has he had?
How long ago was the training?
Does he go for the front of the pants legs or approach from the rear?
How old was he when you got him?

I was hoping to have some responses back from my request for more information, but I also want you to have an answer. The fastest way to get your dog to stop this behavior toward you is to start working with him on obedience training. Obedience training not only teaches a dog to obey commands but also establishes the handler as the boss.

The dog is now sexually mature and will be testing the leadership in the family. It sounds like he does not view you as the boss, so obedience training by you will reinforce that you are the boss. Even if he only listens to get the treats you use in training, each time he obeys, it makes him a little more submissive to you.

A submissive dog does not attempt to reprimand the boss with nips and barking. So while this will take work on your part, you will gain not only a well behaved dog, but a loyal companion as well and one that obeys you.

The following site is helpful for teaching you how to train your dog. Be sure and click on the link to the page on obedience at the bottom. and links on subsequent pages leading to detailed instructions.

Training works best if you train at least 30 minutes a day (two 15 minute sessions). I would start making your dog work via the Nothing in life is free program (NILF). It is outlined below. This also makes the dog see you as the controller of all good in his life and respect you.

Unfortunately, the site does not allow me to make clickable links, so to view the supporting websites, you will need to copy and paste the link into a new browser window or tab.

Remember that you need to be doing the training even if you do it first with your husband around. Use treats like liver slivers and not regular treats.

I hope this information is helpful to you and you are satisfied with my response. If you would like any additional information or have more questions please don’t hesitate to press the reply to expert or continue conversation button so I can address any issues you still have .
