got a 4th generation kindle using 4.0 software. trying to update to current software but my laptop does not show the kindle; tried everything including emailing the update to the kindle...no luck

amazon registered the kindle from their site, but I cannot connect to register from the kindle and therefore am not able to update the software

Have you tried a new cable? or different USB port?

In that case, you will need to contact Amazon directly. Please call them at 1(###) ###-####and let them know that the Kindle is not working using multiple cords and computers.
