My Kodak Hero 5.1 has suddenly stopped printing. Its not

This answer was rated:

My Kodak Hero 5.1 has suddenly stopped printing. It's not a computer problems because it is not copying either. The printer is going through the motions as if it is printing, but nothing on the paper except a very faint coloured text. I have changed the black ink cartridge, so it's not that.
Hello my name isXXXXX look forward to assisting and am very sorry to hear that you are having this problem.
Have you already tried cleaning the machine?
Customer: replied 4 years ago.

No. How do I do that?

Let's try doing a manual cleaning of the machine and see if that helps at all.
If you have any trouble or get stuck at any point please let me know so I can help you.

Remove all the ink cartridges from the machine.
Then clean the contacts on the cartridges as well as inside the machine itself.
Do this with a small amount of warm water on a cotton swab until no ink comes off on the swab.
If any of the other cartridges are low, empty, leaking or bulging replace them.

Now once you have done all of that turn off the machine and unplug it for 70 seconds
Plug it back it and wait for the insert cartridges message
Insert the cartridges and check to see if the problem is still there.

If this did not work please come back and let me know by clicking on reply to expert so we can continue.
If it did work please don’t forget to leave a positive rating it is greatly appreciated.

Hi Freddy

I had thought this problem resolved, but it isn't.

Initially the printing was OK, but it deteriorated. I had been using non-Kodak ink cartridges. So I thoroughly cleaned again and put in fresh Kodak cartidges.

I have since had it print about 40 pages. The results are readable, but poor. About half the lines ore good, the other half very faint.

I'm on the point of cutting my losses and scrapping this printer.

Any suggestions?

Next would be to remove the ink cartridges and then the print head. Soak the print head in warm water and then clean it again like before.

If it still looks bad after that it means the print head needs to be replaced. You can get a new print head from here: Click Here. Unfortunately generic inks do make the print head fail quicker than it would otherwise.
