Customer Question

My Panasonic DMC-TZ30 digital camera serial # XXXXX was purchased at London Heathrow in September 2013. It has proved a superb camera but yesterday while downloading images I got the message 'System error (Zoom)' since when it has failed to function. I receive the instruction to turn the camera off and on again but receive the same error message. Please confirm what I should do. Graham Serjeant (Professor)

Hi Graham,

Thank you for using Just Answer my name is Carl and I will help with your question.

Many lens faults are caused by dust and grit getting into the lens workings and stopping it coming out or stopping sensors working out where the lens is.

Sometimes tapping the camera into your hand when turning the camera on or off can help with freeing stuck lenses.

If you have access to some air in a can or air compressor you could try gently blowing some air around the lens to see if that will help.

There is some good information here on camera repair.

If you are unable to free the lenses I would suggest you contact panasonic UK to arrange sending the camera to them under warranty for repair.

The site also has a service centre locator here.
