Hello, my name is Shahid, I'll be happy to assist you.
Please allow me to ask you a few questions to diagnose the problem.

- If I understand it correctly, you do not get sound of DVB channel while watching it live on TV and get sound if playback same recordings?
- Is the Ariel connected in Recorder for DVB channels recording?
- Have you tried to pull Scart plug from TV or recorder and check sound for live DVB channel?

Customer: replied 3 years ago.

Yes I have tried that and still no sound - it's as if there is an audio setting on the DVR somehow producing incompatible sound signal for the TV. any suggestions?

Expert:  Shahid replied 3 years ago.
Hi Steve,

Is you plug Ariel directly in TV for DVB channels, does sound problem occur or you get normal sound through out program?

Customer: replied 3 years ago.

TV DVB tuner works fine with sound with aerial plugged into VCR and RF link cable plugged into TV aerial socket. Plugging aerial directly into the TV socket as you suggest produces "no signal" banner from TV.

OK, how old is the recorder and how long it have had this problem?
Have you tired to unplug recorder and TV power cords form wall socket for 10 minutes to reset, replug and check?

Customer: replied 3 years ago.

Have had recorder several years with the same TV without this problem. I will try the full power disconnect for 10 mins to see whether the problem goes away!

Expert:  Shahid replied 3 years ago.
Sure, please take your time and reply back how it worked.

Customer: replied 3 years ago.

Tried that with no change - I also checked to see if the DVB software on the VCR was uptodate - it is - version 1.12. Maybe I should try a reset of the VCR provided I won't lose the files on the hard drive

Expert:  Shahid replied 3 years ago.
Sure, try the reset and it wont delete files on hard drive in recorder.
I would also recommend to retune DVB channels in recorder to have fresh channels data then check sound output.

Please reply back how it went.

Customer: replied 3 years ago.

Tried factory reset and then retune - problem remains as before. Very puzzling. I think I may have to live with it! Thanks for trying. Over and out.

ah OK, sorry to hear that.
I'll check related service manual to see if any thing else can be done to correct the problem.
