Hello, my name is***** be happy to assist you.
Please allow me to ask you a few questions to diagnose the problem.
- Is TV get HD broadcasting through aerial or cable/ satellite box?

Tv is connected to a sky hd box, I have picture and sound on hd channels through a scart lead but when I connect through hdmi cable there is picture but no sound on hd channels

- Have you tried to unplug TV and Sky HD box power cords from wall socket for 10 minutes to reset, replug back in and check?
If not yet, can you try it now and reply back with the result?

Hi just tried unplugging but no joy, still the same
OK, does Sky remote has any button like SAP or MTS or Audio?

None of those buttons just the usual TV guide, box office, services etc.
It seems problem is with video source (Sky box) that needs to be reset by cable service provider to restore default settings which will help to resolve sound problem on HD channels through HDMI out port and TV is just fine because you get sound of SD/regular channels through same HDMI input on TV so it would be Sky box internal issue where it couldn't process HD channel sound signal to send it to TV.
Please call Sky and ask them to reset the box for you to resolve the problem.
