I am unable to load my photos from the camera to the PC. When I connect the lead and turn on the camera a message comes on the screen "Error I/O error occurred. Process aborted". I have had the FinePix camera AB20 for about 5 years so thought that the connecting lead might have been damaged so I bought a new lead today thinking that was what the problem is but after using the new lead the same message has come on to the screen. What can have happened?
Thank you for your question, my name is ***** ***** I look forward to assisting you.

Can you connect the lead to a different usb port on the PC and tell me if you still get the error please.

I still get the same result

Do you have another computer available there to test if it happens on another computer?
Customer: replied 2 years ago.

ok, which version of windows are you running, and when did this problem first start?
Customer: replied 2 years ago.

Windows 8.1 The problem has only just occurred this week. Two weeks ago I loaded my holiday pics without any problem but this week I tried to load some new pics and got this message. I am wondering whether I have inadvertently done something on the Fine Pix programme although the settings seem to look OK.

No, settings do not cause this as its a communications error.
I want to rule out the memory card as faulting.
Put a new memory card into the camera and take a few photos and then try to transfer these to the computer.
Let me know the results please
Customer: replied 2 years ago.

No, it still does not work with another memory card.

Thanks it confirms the problem
It is the internal card reader in the camera that has faulted.
The only other causes for this is a faulty cable or faulty memory card which we have ruled out.
5 years is pretty good use of the camera, and unfortunately the warranty will have expired which means you will need to purchase a replacement camera sorry as the cost for repairing this (it would require a new mainboard) would exceed the value of as replacement camera, plus you only get a very limited warranty on the repair.
I am really sorry about this, and if you have problems, or would like any additional information or assistance, please do not hesitate to let me know.
And if you can take a second to rate my service, that would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you

Oh dear that is bad news as I really like this camera and it takes very good pictures. Can you tell me is it possible to load the memory card into the PC to retrieve the photos?

Yes it is, you will need a card reader such as this
You plug the memory card into the adapter and then the adapter into your computers usb port and you can then see the pictures and copy them to your computer.
This is what the adapter is for and is very cheap.
