I point the camera at subject and i have a message superimposed stating "out of memory"
I decide to try and "delete"using the menu to remove images by erasing them but they
remain in the camara.

Connect the camera to the computer.
The computer will then detect it and ask what to do.
Select to view files.
Then copy the photos over to the computer if you wish to keep them, then delete the photos on the camera
Once done, disconnect the camera and try to use it.
If it still gives the error, remove the memory card from the camera and connect it again so you view its internal memory and then delete the photos there, then disconnect it and try to use the camera.
