Hi Alex,
The audio L&R connections on the TV are for inputting sound.
There is no audio output connection on this TV to connect to your stereo aux.

That is a shame, is there no way I can get sound onto my stereo from the TV?

Unfortunately this TV doesn't have an audio output.
However, if you are viewing a different source (e.g. a DVD player or cable box) it may have an audio output that you can connect to your stereo so that you still get the sound.
