Customer Question

I have a Panasonic DVD Recorder, model DMR-EX77EB.
We watched a recorded programme last night & all was well, then
shut machine off. This morning at 12.30pm (or thereabouts) I went to turn it on, and discovered the clock was stuck at 11.00 (am) and the machine would not turn on, either via the remote or on the machine. I turned the mains off to check the fuse, which was OK, and then turned it back on and nothing happens, not even the display. Any suggestions would be gratefully received!

Hi Martin,

Approximately how old is the machine?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Hi PeteThanks for your reply.
The machine is just over 8 years old.

Have you tried a few more power cycles?

Is there any response at all from the machine?

Can you hear any motor sounds when you try to turn it on?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Sorry Pete, been busy at work!
The machine is totally dead with no noises, and refuses to power on!

Ok, then some electrical testing will be required to troubleshoot further.

A component on the power supply circuitry may have failed, possibly an electrolytic capacitor or a transformer.

Do you have a voltmeter available to carry out some tests?
