Hi there and welcome

You do not tap System you scroll to it then tap Language & input.

  • Then
  • Under 'Speech,' tap Text-to-speech options.
  • Tap Speech rate and then adjust how fast the text will be spoken.
  • Tap the Settings icon next to the desired TTS engine (Samsung or Google).

Let me know how you go please

Customer: replied 6 months ago.
But system isn't there!

Do a search at the top in settings for

Text-to-speech

Customer: replied 6 months ago.
OK did this and got preferred engine/speech rate and pitch and that's it. Cannot apply it to a document.

You enable it then go to a text document or anything and use the microphone icon there please

Customer: replied 6 months ago.
How do you enable it and there is no microphone icon on the document

Not on the document, on the keyboard where you type

Customer: replied 6 months ago.
Can't find one on there either
Customer: replied 6 months ago.
It appeared the second time though

so you see it now correct?

Customer: replied 6 months ago.
But it says try saying something.
Customer: replied 6 months ago.
Don't know how to get it to read the text
  1. From any Home screen, tap the Apps icon.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Scroll to 'Personal,' then tap Accessibility.
  4. Under 'More settings,' tap Direct access.
  5. Slide the Direct access Switch right to the ON position.
    • This enables your Accessibility settings.
    • You can also enable your Accessibility settings by pressing the Home key 3 times in quick succession.
  6. Tap Galaxy TalkBack to enable the feature.
Customer: replied 6 months ago.
Tried theat. There's no galaxy talk back and text to speech leads to same situation as before

Download and install the app then Text to Speech TTS

Which you can see here

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.textsprecher

Open the app and use this

Let me know how you go

Customer: replied 6 months ago.
Done that and got the app but how do I get the text to the app?

Open the app and put the text into it

Customer: replied 6 months ago.
How do I put the text into it. I'm trying to transfer something from my pc to this stupid tablet belonging to a friend. There is no file manager and no select/copu facilty on the text I emailed and downloaded.

Text to speech has nothing to do with transferring files...

What is it you are actually trying to do?

Customer: replied 6 months ago.
To transfer some text to this tablet and allow her to listen to it using text to speech.

What did you transfer to the phone? How did you transfer it?

Customer: replied 6 months ago.
Its a tablet. emailed it as an attachment and downloaded it

ok, open the attachment, hold down on the text and select it all then copy

Then go to the app, hold down and select paste

Customer: replied 6 months ago.
OK. I have coped it and gone to the app. There's a symbol there for text inserted from clipboard but it does nothing

Go to the app, hold down and select paste

Customer: replied 6 months ago.
OK had the 'intuitive idea of holding down on the instruction in the middle to add text and it has pasted but still can't get it to 'speak'

You press the speaker icon for it to read the text

Customer: replied 6 months ago.
Tried that. Nothing happens. Though a square stop sign appears that implies it is working. The sound seems to be on

The sound is not on, increase the sound while it is playing please

Customer: replied 6 months ago.
OK the level increases on the bar, the loudspeaker is not muted and there is no sound. I tried it with something from google andthe sound seemed fine.

Type some text in, then press the speaker icon to play it

Customer: replied 6 months ago.
It says it has stopped working. Probably feels much like me.

restart the device and try again please

Customer: replied 6 months ago.
should there be a TTS logo there because there isn't. Does that mean I have to reload it?
Customer: replied 6 months ago.
Have reloaded TTS and it is the same.

You open the Text to Speech app, the one I had you install

Customer: replied 6 months ago.
is the same

no sound?

Customer: replied 6 months ago.
I have found the logo in a 'box' with other apps
Customer: replied 6 months ago.
Sound on the tablet but nothing happens on TTS

Do you see the soundbars moving as you play the text?

Customer: replied 6 months ago.
not sure what you mean by soundbars. Can't see anything obvious that could correspond to that description

Then you do not have the app open I have asked you to install else you would see them

Go to your apps and open it

Customer: replied 6 months ago.
Do you mean simply tapping the logo, because that seems to open the app?

yes... then put in your text where it says enter text to be spoken here

then make sure volume there is at full then press the speaker icon top right in the blue circle

Customer: replied 6 months ago.
It has a blue bar across the topsays text to speech (TTS), has speed pitch volume controls, a loudspeaker logo that turns to an off button when tapped, a bin, microphone and copy sign at bottom
Customer: replied 6 months ago.
Yup. Done that numerous times. Tried again. Same non-result.

When you press play, do you see the sound bars moving at the top

Customer: replied 6 months ago.
It also has three dots with a drop down menu, but noe of it seems to be relevant

When you press play, do you see the sound bars moving at the top

Customer: replied 6 months ago.
There are no sound lines at the top

Then you are not pressing play and playing any text else you see them

you need to paste in your text or type it in and press the speaker icon to play

Customer: replied 6 months ago.
Have done so repeatedly Test is there, the blue loudspeaker is pressed and a stop button appears and nothing happens!
Customer: replied 6 months ago.
test = text

Go to the play store, download the app Talk free and use that please

Customer: replied 6 months ago.
OK had to install google TTs it said. Have just typed in something and it works

ok, now use this for reading the text

OK have done that , pressed down in middle and pasted and it works.
But I have no logo on my home page to open it as required.

You add the app to your home page, press and hold on the app icon and drag it to your home page

Customer: replied 6 months ago.
how do you 'add' the app to the home page

You add the app to your home page, press and hold on the app icon and drag it to your home page

Customer: replied 6 months ago.
From where? How?

Do not understand your last message sorry

Customer: replied 6 months ago.
There is no logo anywhere on the home page. Where is the logo to be found to' it onto the homepage. I don't understand how you can drag anything onto the page when it is a whole.. Can you have split screens or something? drag'

Not the home page

Go to your list of apps

press and hold on the app icon and drag it to your home page

Customer: replied 6 months ago.
It's not in the apps. The logo is not there. Not anywhere!

You just opened it.

Its the app you opened

Customer: replied 6 months ago.
in the play store after installing it as there is no logo to press.

It is, in your list of apps, every app is there

Customer: replied 6 months ago.
It isn't I have just checked every logo on the home page, everyone in the apps and those that are collected together in boxes. Each one. For about the tenth time. It isn't there.

You will have to open i then via the play store

Customer: replied 6 months ago.
OK. Well, that was exasperating. Thank you for your patience
