I have a Samsung A40 I bought it a month ago on Monday I put my finger retention onto my phone all was ok until last night it asked me for my code I don’t have a code so now I cannot get into my phone

I'm sorry about your phone issue. I'm glad to assist you today. Please try the following steps on your new Samsung Galaxy A40 smartphone:

  1. If possible, please press and hold the Power key and power off.
    - (If it does not power off, then press and keep holding both the Volume Down key and Power key for about 9 seconds for it to power off / restart the phone, then do the next step right away.)
  2. Press and hold both the Volume Up key and the Power key.
  3. Keep holding these two keys together until the Samsung logo appears or the recovery menu appears.
  4. Press the Volume down key several times key to highlight the option wipe data / factory reset.
  5. Press Power button to select.
  6. Press the Volume down key to highlight option Yes....
  7. Press Power button to select.
  8. Once the reset process is finished, press the Power key to reboot system now.

I do not want to go back to factory settings as that means I will loose every thing on my phone

I'm sorry. You would need to reset your phone since you've forgotten your phone's password / code. You can sign in your Google gmail email account at the website below and check if your data, such as photos, etc. are there. If yes, once you have reset your phone, you can sign in your google gmail account on your phone, then you would get your data back.
