My printer says error 02. Says I have no paper but there is

My printer says error 02. Says I have no paper but there is plenty of paper correctly inserted. Seems it tries to feed it in but cannot.
JA: Is your printer displaying the error on all print jobs, even after you restart it?
Customer: Yes
JA: When did you last update the printer driver software?
Customer: Never!
JA: Anything else you want the Printer Expert to know before I connect you?

Please remove all paper from printer and turn off printer and unplug power cord.
Keep the ON button on printer pressed for 10 secs...wait for 2 mins
Plug in power cord and turn on printer.

then insert few sheets of paper and try a print

how old is the printer?

the instructions have 2011 on the bottom, so that must be it, though it seems less

was there any paper jam or ink replacement done recently

No paper jam, think I replaced ink a few weeks ago. Have printed successfully since then

please check the feed tray where paper is inserted and clean the tray with a soft cloth and then insert paper again and try

this seems to be a problem with a paper sensor

fixing this would involve the printer to be serviced

i feared so, do you know if anywhere is actually open while we are in lockdown?

not very sure as today the canon website is down itself

however since the printer is out of warranty, a repair at a local store/technician would be the best bet

you could maybe try local yellow pages search for a technician who might be independently providing a repair considering that most service centers would be closed due to the lockdown
