JA: How old is your GT-N5110?
Customer: Not sure but I think about 7 years.
JA: What have you tried so far with your GT-N5110?
Customer: I've tried to follow the Google guide but it seems to only apply to phones.
JA: Anything else you want the Android Expert to know before I connect you?
Customer: No I just want to know if it's possible and if so how to do it.

Hi Pete I look forward to your reply
  1. From the home screen, tap the All Apps icon.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Scroll to and tap About device.
  4. Tap Update Samsung Software.
  5. Tap Check now.
  6. If an update is available, follow the on-screen prompts. Otherwise, tap the Home icon.
  7. The tablet is now up to date.

I've done this but the answer is that its up to date but the version no doesn't change and I'm unable to download latest apps eg Digital version of Telegraph for which I'm a subscriber.

If the tablet does not update to a later version when you do this then it is not capable of running a later update.

I guess that I will need to replace the tablet with a more up to date model. Any that you would recommend - not too complicated as we are old and not especially good with IT !

Yes, the tablet will need to be replaced if you want an updated version.

I would recommend that you stay with Samsung so that you are familiar with it -

Currys have a good deal on the Samsung Tab A at the moment, reduced from £199 to £159:
