I have lost connection from my computer to my printer so i

I have lost connection from my computer to my printer so i cannot print anything off. Everything is on and the cables seem to correctly attached. Pleas advise as to what to do next to correct this issue
JA: How are you connecting to your printer: wirelessly or by USB?
Customer: By cables- USB
JA: When did you last update the printer driver software?
Customer: I has a while -cannot remeber

With the printer powered on, remove the power cord from the back.

Plug back in the power cord and power it on

I have gone into System preferences on my computer and it appears that there new two HP Envy 5000 printers - ti have only got the one - how do get rid of one and get the right one as the default printer

The easiest way to know which one is the right one is to try and print with both of them. If it fails then you can delete that printer icon.

Highlight the printer icon and press the minus icon
