I have a Panasonic DMR-EZ49VEB which I can't use because the child lock won't turn off. I've used the instructions in the manual for this without any result. Please help.
JA: Just to clarify, what device or product are you trying to access?
Customer: Sorry it's DVD/VHS recorder.
JA: Who makes your media player? How old is it?
Customer: Don't understand the media player but it must be 7/8 years old.
JA: What confuses you?
Customer: It is a combined machine, the TV is also a Panasonic.
JA: What have you tried so far with your Panasonic media player?
Customer: I have pressed and held the OK and Return buttons on the remote untill "X HOLD" on the display disappears, which is supposed to cancel the child lock. but no good.
JA: Anything else you want the TV Expert to know before I connect you?
Customer: No thats it.

Greetings and Welcome to JustAnswer.

I am Andrew your Support Technician with over 30 years of experience, it can be very frustrating when electronic devices go wrong but from my experience misconfiguration are usually the problem and they can be quickly resolved with the right advice and assistance. Please allow me a few moments to investigate, I will respond at the earliest either requesting more information or providing further information.

I have investigated the information you have provided and it sounds like you have a query relating to Panasonic DVD/VHS recorder which has the child lock function enabled. I would recommend you follow the steps attached to disable this mode on your DVD/VHS recorder.

  1. Press the [POWER] button on the DVD player to turn it on.

  2. Press the [OPEN/CLOSE] button to open the disc tray.

  3. Press the number button “ 5 ” on the remote control 4 times. (The power is automatically turned off.) All the settings return to the factory presets.

I hope the information provided today helps and if you have any questions or require any further assistance, please let me know and I will do my best to answer those!

Andrew

I should have mentioned that neither the VHS tape nor the DVD disc can be released.
Expert:  Andrew Balfour replied 19 days ago.

Via the remote, does it work?

Customer: replied 19 days ago.
The remote works but does not release anything
Expert:  Andrew Balfour replied 19 days ago.

Can you share a picture of the remote?

Could you attempt the steps attached in the image and let me know of the outcome.

Customer: replied 19 days ago.
That is what it says in my manual and is what I've tried many times without success
Expert:  Andrew Balfour replied 19 days ago.

That is the method suggest in the user manual, I will have to look for other options if that does not work.

Customer: replied 19 days ago.
I would be obliged if you would.
Expert:  Andrew Balfour replied 19 days ago.

No problem at all.

Customer: replied 19 days ago.

Have you had any luck with my problem yet?
Expert:  Andrew Balfour replied 16 days ago.

Unfortunetly, the only option is the details found in the user manual.

Customer: replied 16 days ago.
OK, thanks for trying anyway. It will have to go into a repair shop. Could you please arrange for my membership to "just answer" to be cancelled, thanks.
Expert:  Andrew Balfour replied 16 days ago.

I can provide you a number to call if you wish to cancel, is that ok?

Customer: replied 16 days ago.
