Customer Question

Since the end of may I have had the following symptoms. All blood tests from GP have come back normal.

It started with heavy stiff legs following a very mild virus. I had to sit down with legs elevated after any small bouts of walking. This didn't pass. Then my jaw became very stiff when eating or talking. I had a range of blood tests at the GP but all were normal including esr and crp.
However, over the course of the three months other more difficult to describe symptoms have arisen. My periods have stopped (although I am 46 so could be menopause) and lots of hot and cold flushes. Have had about 8 strange episodes which reall worry me. They come on quite suddenly, with feeling first in jaw and face. A wave of fatigue sweeps over me. Then I feel very unwell and have to concentrate very hard. Cant really speak. My heart doesn't race and I don't feel like I am breathless or anything like that but have to lie down. Legs are like jelly and I need to empty my bowels a few times. I feel like vomiting. It eventually pass off but have become more regular. I thought they were related to low blood sugar as a few happened when I was hungry. However, the last one happened just as I was finishing a meal. I feel very tired when it passes off.
I have absolutely no other medical problems. I was very fit, and am of normal weight. I know that my thyroid has been checked and my inflammatory markers as well as all normal checks. I have a lovely family and have had to spend the summer resting and feeling very unwell. I really need to know if this could be an endocrine problem.

The only other thing which may be of no relevance is that about 7 years ago I was unwell for a time with nothing specific but had allergy tests done which led me to exclude yeast.

Customer: replied 4 years ago.
Nauseous it is difficult to describe but I am not actually sick. I don't even want to drink water when it happens

OK--here's one thought. This sounds a lot like carcinoid syndrome. It's caused by a gastrointestinal tumor that periodically secretes serotonin which causes "spells" much like you describe. While your constellation of symptoms aren't isn't exactly classic for carcinoid, I would work you up for that syndrome. Here's a link with more information for you
